Sapporo Shiroishi Visit — March 2008

The Sapporo Shiroishi Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SSSWE) from Sapporo, Japan will be visiting us from March 25 to 30, 2008 for a cultural and musical exchange and a joint concert at Symphony Hall in Boston.

The SSSWE students will be arriving in the evening on Tuesday, March 25 and staying at the homes of CCHS Band students. They will come to school on Wednesday and Friday with their hosts to experience classes at CCHS and to rehearse. On Thursday morning they will perform at the Massachusetts Music Educators All-State Conference in Boston, then they will tour Boston in the afternoon. On Friday afternoon they and the CCHS Bands will travel to Symphony Hall where they will perform in a joint concert starting at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday they will spend the day with their host families. That evening all of the Japanese and American band students and their host families will attend a farewell party at the Roxy Dance Club in Boston. After this whirlwind visit, the SSSWE students will depart for Logan on Sunday morning. During their stay, we hope to show the SSSWE students the same great hospitality that the CCHS Concert Band received during its visit to Japan last April.

Tickets are now available for the “Music Knows No Borders” Concert at Symphony Hall on Friday, March 28 at 8:00 p.m. The CCHS Repertory Band, the Sapporo Shiroishi Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the CCHS Concert Band and the combined SSSWE and CCHS Concert Band will all perform. Tickets may now be purchased at the Toy Shop of Concord, at Ferns in Carlisle, from the Symphony Hall Box Office, and through Mr. Dentino at the high school. Ticket prices are $20, $35 and $50. We want to fill all of the seats in Symphony Hall, so please join us for this evening of great music and international friendship.
