Evita
Evita, is the story of Eva Duarte, a young actress who rose from obscurity to become the first lady of Argentina. As the wife of President Juan Peron, she became a national sensation and icon until her death from cancer at age 33. With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, Evita won seven Tony Awards in 1980. Evita is not a typical musical, but is an opera. Everything is sung...there are no spoken lines! It has a rock/pop component to the music, as well as traditional string orchestra sounds. There is a decidedly Latin beat to much of the music. Evita takes place in Argentina and Europe from the late 1930s to the early 1950s. Performances are all in the CCHS Auditorium
