I entered the location, but it didn't show up. I think I need to enter the event as:
Chorus concert, CCHS Auditorium.
That's how I do it in the old calendar.
The event location stuff is useful if you want there to be map links, but I think you have to fill out a full address before it will display any part of it.
It would be useful if there were a drop-down with commonly used locations...
In the mean time, I'd put the name of the event in the title and any other details like the location in the Body text.
Plain text will usually be fine, but if you want emphasis or to use a link as above, you can use Filtered HTML. There are some pointers on it under site edit > compose tips, also linked as "More information about formatting options" at the bottom of any edit page.

For an event like a concert, I only want a start time without an end time. How do I do that?
Also do I want to be working in Filtered HTML or Plain Text?
composing events
If you specify the start and end as the same time, it displays only start. See The Dummy zero-duration event on Dec 19.
