Dance Club

Welcome to the CCHS Dance Club web page

How does one define dance? Is it the execution of multiple pirouettes to a Tchaikovsky ballet? Is it the abstract expression and grounded strength of a modern piece? Is it the sensual rhythm and syncopated beat of a Latin salsa? The answer is that all of these and more represent the styles and techniques of contemporary dance.

The CC Dance Club is a place for dancers of all levels to meet, learn, and express themselves through different types of movement. One of our goals is to introduce our teens to as many different dance styles as possible. Each type of dance offers a different vocabulary, a different emotion expressed, a different type of physicality. With a knowledge of these styles, a dancer is better able to appreciate the art of dance. Furthermore, if choreography is an interest, being exposed to a wide variety of dance allows each dancer a much larger repertoire of moves to integrate into a piece.

No dance experience is necessary. All abilities are welcome.

Dance 2009-2010 News and Events
The Club meets twice a week in the Fall on Tuesdays and Fridays at 2:15 to 4 p.m. Every year the Dance Club displays their work at the Spirit Day Assembly performed for their fellow students. The routine is student choreographed and always a hit. Carly Dwyer, past Faculty Sponsor of the club and now the new Drama Director, has arranged to have Ricky Kuperman, a young chorographer, who attends Harvard College, to come instruct a contemporary workshop one Friday afternoon in early December. These are just a few of the opportunities for Dance Club members to have fun together. Come see us dance!

October Workshop
Back by popular demand are the Floorlords! This kickoff workshop is planned for October 2nd at 2:15 p.m. in the Auditorium. Lino Delgado, who is from the Floorlords of Boston, is coming to CCHS to demonstrate and teach hip-hop steps and routines. We invite all students to come learn some new hip-hop moves.

Fundraising
Dance Club is working closely with CCPOPS in a combined effort to raise funds. Dancers are encouraged to become involved in performing or helping out with the events. This collaboration helps to benefit the Dance Club along with the Chorus, Drama, Band and Orchestra Clubs.

Winter Musical Needs Dancers!
Dancers from Dance Club are also encouraged to go out for the Winter Musical called, Wonderful Town. This musical will feature dance styles from the 1940s like Jazz and Swing. Becky Robichaud has been asked to work with the students again this year for the show.
