Barnum

Barnum

Barnum, the tale of one of the greatest showmen in American history, will be brought to life on the CCHS stage in March, 2006. BARNUM (music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Michael Stewart) is the story of Phineas Taylor Barnum and the remarkable life he led from sideshow promoter to museum owner to politician to circus co-owner. This will be a thrilling show, which will include acrobatic and circus performers along with the usual actors, singers, and dancers. We all have favorite musicals, but this one contains so much energy, great music, and fun that it’s surprising that it isn’t performed more often. Barnum opened on Broadway in 1980 and was nominated for 11 Tony awards that year. Up for Best Musical, it lost to Evita, which is probably why Barnum is one of the great “obscure” musicals of Broadway.
