Alumni News - January 2006January, 2006 Mike Lazar (’02) is completing his fourth year at NYU. He has completed two years of musical theatre training, one year of on-screen acting training and is now a student of the Classical Studio at NYU, open by audition only to juniors and seniors in Tisch. In May ’05, Mike played a principal in the off-Broadway production of Michael Jonn-Lachiusa’s The Wild Party where his performance caught the attention of professional casting directors. Mike will play a lead role in The Full Monty, one of Tisch’s mainstay musicals for Spring 2006. Matt Divino (’04) sings bass with UNH’s “The New Hampshire Gentlemen”. This audition-based ensembleo f just 12 young men is the premier all-male a cappella group of New Hampshire, performing contemporary and classic rock music throughout the region, including at NH Governor John Lynch’s 2005 Inaugural Ball. Their spring concert is scheduled for April 29 in the Johnson Theatre at UNH. Jodi Siegelman (’04) was elected Vice President of the Boston University Choral Society, a co-ed, mixed voice, non-auditioned ensemble consisting of both undergraduate and graduate members. The Choral Society produces three concerts a year, including the Masterworks Concert in the Spring, which includes a full orchestra and guest artists. Jodi is also a member of the Chamber Singers, a smaller ensemble chosen by audition from within the chorus. Matt Boucher (’04) is singing with the Mama-jamas (from Simon and G.’s ‘Julio Down by the Schoolyard’). This 16 member co-ed group sings everything from oldies to contemporary pop and indie (independent) to rap. A relatively new group (founded in 1995) they pride themselves on having a good time and singing songs they grew up with. Their website is currently being updated; the address is www.themamajamas.com. Matt is a psychology major with a minor in Spanish and is planning to go abroad to Segovia, Spain in the spring of 2007. Jess Lawson (’04) is a sophomore at Connecticut College, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Dance. She participated in the Summer Stages Dance program at Concord Academy last summer, performing in a dance piece choreographed by Boston area artist, Lorraine Chapman. This piece will be performed at the West End Theatre in NYC, March 2, 3, and 4 through a connection Lorraine has with David Parker (from David Parker and the Bang Dance Company), who presented a workshop at CCHS in Fall ’03, thanks to a grant given to CCPOPS by the Concord Ed. Fund. Alex Moore (’04) is a member of BU’s a cappella group “The Trebs”. Alex just got back from a BU-sponsored trip to China, where he sang the Star Spangled Banner for a gathering of Chinese officials (a spontaneous request). He saw the Forbidden City, climbed the Great Wall and visited the Chinese countryside. He plans to major in advertising in BU’s School of Communications. Jen Morse (’03) spent the summer ’05 teaching music at an orphanage and school in Cambodia. The program is run by Dr. Nancy Hendrie, pediatrician to many Carlisle kids, who “retired” and started an adoption and community improvement program in the village of Roteang, a bumpy 30-minute drive from Phnom Penh. Funded by a grant from the Weisman Foundation at Harvard and support from the Unitarian Church in Carlisle, Jen left in June with a huge suitcase full of recorders and rhythm instruments. Jen worked with small children in the orphanage, elementary school children at the Khmer Literacy School, and Middle and High School aged kids at an after-school ESL program housed at the Roteang public school. Using everything from Nursery Rhymes to the Beatles to James Brown (“I Feel Good” was a big hit) she taught simple English combined with musical concepts. She accompanied the classes on a Japanese keyboard she bought at the open air market in PP, highlighted by red lights that shone with each key stroke. At the end of the summer, Jen joined the teaching staff on a bus trip to the temples at Angkor Wat, a trip punctuated by non-stop karaoke sessions on the bus and in the hotel. Jen plays piccolo in the Harvard University Band and sings with the Kuumba Singers of Harvard College. Mike Chateauneuf (’03) is currently in his junior year at Colgate University. He is double majoring in English Literature and Theater. Since graduating from CC Mike has performed in a number of shows including: Engaged (Mr. Symperson), Machinal (Prosecution Lawyer), the Lexington Player’s production of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown (Linus) and the Metrowest Family Theater’s production of Grease (Sonny). Most recently he played the part of Valere in the Colgate University Theater production of The Miser by Moliere. Mike is also a member of Masque and Triangle (Colgate’s dramatic society) and the Colgate Chorus. McCurdy Miller (’04) is now a sophomore at Bryn Mawr College outside of Philadelphia. She’s majoring in economics and minoring in education, plus taking a lot of advanced math courses. McCurdy continues to take private voice lessons but has channeled much of her energy into rowing on the Bryn Mawr Crew Team, a dream she had held since third grade. She keeps in close touch with other “Varsity FOH” CCHS alums including Becca Staples-Moore (Smith College ’08), Molly Dapice (Georgetown ’08), Megan Lyons (Stevens Institute of Technology ’08), and Chris Daniels (Columbia ’09).
